The City of Concord is gearing up to pay tribute to local veterans through a series of events and closures scheduled for Veterans Day. In the spirit of honoring those who have served the nation, the city has organized various activities to commemorate the occasion.

One of the highlights of the upcoming Veterans Day celebrations is the annual Veterans Salute 5K and 10K races in Downtown Concord on Saturday, November 11. Mayor Pro Tem JC McKenzie will lead a special presentation to the American Legion Post 51 before the races commence. Community members are encouraged to participate in the event, with online registration still available until November 11.

Following a one-mile family fun-run, Mayor Pro Tem McKenzie will present a banner signed by community members to the American Legion Post 51, demonstrating support and gratitude for local veterans. The event will also feature the American Legion Post 51 Color Guard presenting the national colors and the national anthem before the races kick off.

In addition to the races, a Veterans Day Celebration will be held at the Boys and Girls Club in Concord in partnership with Cabarrus County. The event, scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on November 11, will provide an opportunity for the community to come together and honor local veterans. Refreshments will be provided by the Oak Grove Baptist Church Veterans Ministry, and all are welcome to attend this free event.

As part of the Veterans Day observance, City of Concord government offices will be closed on Friday, November 10. City Recreation Centers will operate on adjusted hours on November 10 and 11, with the David Phillips Activity Center remaining closed during this period.

Rider Transit will maintain its regular schedule on Veterans Day, with a reminder that military veterans are eligible for a Reduced Fare ID Card, available online or at the Rider Transit Center Customer Service Office.

The City of Concord invites all community members to join in honoring and recognizing the contributions of local veterans through these events and closures.
