City of Concord closes government offices for Good Friday, announces Bunny Run event details

City of Concord government offices will be closed on Friday, April 18, in observance of Good Friday. The annual Bunny Run 5K & Festival is scheduled for Saturday, April 19, taking place on McCachern Boulevard in Downtown Concord. The event will commence with a free one-mile fun run at 8:30 a.m., followed by festival activities at 9 a.m. During this time, McCachern Boulevard will be closed to through traffic, along with lane closures on Union Street South and Corban Avenue to accommodate the event's route.

According to city officials, services such as garbage, recycling, bulky, and yard waste collection will maintain their regular schedules as will Rider Transit. City recreation centers will be open on Friday from 12-6 p.m., though the David Phillips Activity Center will be closed. Meanwhile, ClearWater Arts Center & Studios will operate from 12-5 p.m., and Lake Fisher will remain open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday.

Concerning the Bunny Run 5K & Festival on Saturday, participants can join the fun beginning with the 8:30 a.m. fun run, followed by the 5K race and festival activities from 9 a.m. on McCachern Boulevard. Organizers remind potential participants that online registration continues through Saturday, and registration will also be available in person on the day of the race.

The festival, running from 9-11 a.m., will feature face-painting, music, arts and crafts, food trucks, and dancing with the Easter Bunny. The event is open to the public without charge.

Road closures for the event will commence at 7 a.m. on Saturday, April 19. McCachern Boulevard, between Cabarrus Avenue and Means Avenue, will be inaccessible to through traffic. However, businesses, including the U.S. Post Office, will remain reachable via Means Avenue, with right turns allowed for motorists onto McCachern Boulevard.

For the 5K race, northbound lanes on Union Street from Tribune Avenue to Corban Avenue will close at 8 a.m. Additionally, the eastbound lane of Corban Avenue from Union Street to Branchview Drive will be inaccessible starting at 8:50 a.m. Alternative routes are available for Union Street and Corban Avenue via Sunnyside Drive and Virginia Street, respectively.

Officials state that no parking will be permitted on Union Street between Tribune Avenue and Corban Avenue after 6 a.m., with towing enforced during the event.
