The City of Concord and El Puente Hispano are set to host the Second Annual Concord International Festival in Downtown Concord on Saturday, October 22. Originally scheduled for an earlier date, the event was postponed due to expected severe weather conditions.
Visitors can explore a variety of international foods, music, dance, crafts, games, and more during the festival hours from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. The festivities will take place along Union Street and Cabarrus Avenue. Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy live performances from various cultural groups including Banna with Celtic music from Ireland and Nrityangan Cultural Academy showcasing Bollywood dances from India.
The festival promises over 60 vendors representing more than 40 countries and cultures. Children can engage in traditional games from countries such as China, Australia, Greece, and others in a designated kids’ zone.
This year’s event is free of charge thanks to sponsors such as Hispanic Federation, Telemundo Charlotte, Elevation Church, among others. In addition to entertainment offerings, a contest for the best cultural booth and traditional outfit is being introduced. Cultural booths will be judged based on creativity and informational presentation about their respective countries. Prizes sponsored by El Puente Hispano include $500 for first place and $300 for second place.
Road closures necessary for the festival will commence at 6 a.m., with sections of Union Street and Cabarrus Avenue affected until reopening at 7 p.m. Free parking is available throughout Downtown Concord in several locations including the Brian Hiatt Municipal Parking Deck.
