The City of Concord will take over garbage and recycling services starting July 1, 2023. This shift aims to enhance service reliability for residents. Some individuals may experience changes in their garbage collection day and recycling week. Residents can check their updated schedules at concordnc.gov/whatsmyday.

The transition to an entirely in-house model by the city's Solid Waste Services Department began in July 2022 with city crews handling bulky waste collections. By July 1, the transition will be complete, with city crews managing all residential garbage, recycling, yard, and bulky waste collections. In preparation for this change, residents might notice City of Concord garbage trucks practicing routes in their neighborhoods.

Solid Waste Services will adopt a four-day workweek starting in July, with collections occurring from Monday through Thursday. This adjustment aims to maintain a consistent schedule during holiday weeks.

To implement the new four-day schedule, collection routes have been modified, resulting in changes for many residents regarding their garbage day or recycling and bulky waste collection week. The updated routes take effect during the week of July 3-7, 2023.

Residents are encouraged to:

- Visit concordnc.gov/whatsmyday.

- Enter their address into the map to see if their collection day is changing.

- Note whether their recycling and bulky waste collection falls on a BLUE or GREEN week.

- Download the 2023 Recycling & Bulky Waste Calendar.

Additionally, residents can download the free CARTology app and enable notifications for important service alerts to ensure they do not miss any collection days. The app is available on both the App Store and Google Play.

For questions about these changes effective in July concerning garbage and recycling collection, residents should contact Customer Care at 704-920-5555.
