The Concord Fire Department is set to carry out a live-fire training exercise on November 18 at an acquired structure located at 708 Arbor Street NE. The exercise will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., during which time part of Arbor Street NE will be closed. Residents nearby may notice smoke and a significant presence of fire department personnel.
This training marks the culmination event for the Recruit Academy, whose members are graduating in December. According to the department, "Live-fire training is an essential element in the development and advancement of skills for firefighters, and prepares them for conditions they will face during a real emergency."
Arbor Street NE will be inaccessible between Palaside Drive NE and Earl Avenue NE throughout the exercise hours. However, access to Uwharrie Bank and Salon Verde can still be gained via Church Street N, Palaside Drive NE, and Earl Avenue NE.
The public is reminded that this is solely a training exercise. Motorists are encouraged to maintain traffic flow, and residents should contact emergency services only if facing a life-threatening situation.
