The City of Concord Transportation Department has announced the closure of a section of Lincoln Street SW starting Friday, July 15 at 8 a.m. This measure is being taken to ensure driver safety as the bridge on Lincoln Street SW has been deemed unsafe for vehicle passage.
According to city officials, "the closure is necessary to protect drivers as the bridge on Lincoln Street SW is no longer safe for vehicles to travel across." The bridge's condition has worsened over time, prompting an accelerated timeline for its replacement. The design process for a new bridge had already begun, with initial plans targeting construction in 2023. However, recent inspections have indicated that the deterioration is more severe than previously anticipated.
"Recent inspections revealed the bridge is deteriorating faster than predicted and is no longer structurally safe," stated the city authorities. Consequently, road closure will remain in effect until construction of the new bridge concludes. Although construction is set to commence in 2023, a specific completion date remains undecided.
In light of this development, motorists are advised to adhere to designated detour routes which include Wilshire Avenue SW, Union Street S, Corban Avenue SW, and Georgia Street SW.
