The Concord Fire Marshal announced the lifting of the local burn ban for the city effective immediately. This follows the North Carolina Forest Service's decision to end the statewide ban.
The prohibition of open burning across the state was enacted on March 21 and included fires more than 100 feet away from structures. Concord's local ban extended to all open burning within 100 feet of a building.
While residents can now burn materials in approved containers, the Fire Marshal's Office cautions against burning yard waste, garbage, and construction debris. "It is against existing City ordinance to burn yard waste, garbage, and construction waste."
Residents are advised to follow these safety tips: "Avoid burning on windy days. Keep a water source or extinguisher nearby. Never leave a fire unattended. Ensure the fire is completely out before leaving the area."
