Susanna Black has been announced as the special guest for the TrueCare Pharmacy 93rd Concord Christmas Parade, according to the Cabarrus Events Association. Black, an award-winning reporter and anchor with WSOC-TV Channel 9, is a native of Concord. She will be joined by her three-year-old daughter Lyla in the parade.

"The annual Christmas parade has always been one of my favorite Concord traditions," said Black. "It’s a time to showcase our best of the best while getting together with loved ones. My family always throws a party at my dad’s office on Union Street, enjoying great food and company while taking in the sights. I’m excited to be this year’s special guest and am looking forward to honoring our essential workers. See you there!"

As part of her role as special guest, Black will participate in paying tribute to essential workers who have supported the community during the COVID-19 pandemic. The parade will feature a "Salute to Essential Workers" tribute and a community poster contest encouraging residents to create signs thanking local essential workers across various sectors such as grocery stores, restaurants, schools, hospitals, and emergency services.

Residents can obtain free poster boards from Concord Fire Stations or the Boys and Girls Club of Cabarrus County to create their signs for display along the parade route. Posters will be judged after the event with winners announced in the new year.

Black joined Channel 9 news in September 2019 after working in Wilmington, Greensboro, and Raleigh news markets. Her journalistic work includes leading investigations and covering significant events like presidential visits and hurricanes. Her efforts have earned recognition from organizations including the North Carolina Associated Press.

A graduate of the Hussman School of Journalism and Media at UNC-Chapel Hill, Black was raised in Concord where she attended Concord High School. She also serves on an advisory council for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
