Applications are now being accepted for the 18th Citizen Public Safety Academy, offering citizens a unique opportunity to gain insight into the city's public safety operations. The program, which spans eight weeks, will provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the roles and responsibilities of public safety professionals in Concord.
As stated by the announcement, participants in the academy will have the chance to engage with various departments, with a focus on the Concord Police Department and the Concord Fire Department. The program will include sessions where students can learn about evidence-based community policing strategies, interact with police K-9s, witness demonstrations of firefighting techniques, and explore emergency management practices, including the operation of the city's Mobile Command Center.
Crystal Green, Police Administration Manager at the Concord Police Department, highlighted the importance of early application, stating that "Residents are encouraged to apply early as space is limited." Interested individuals can submit their applications online at concordnc.gov/PublicSafetyAcademy, with the deadline set for February 1, 2023. The academy will accommodate up to 20 students per session on a first-come, first-served basis, with classes commencing on February 15.
In response to the growing demand, the city of Concord will introduce an afternoon session from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in addition to the traditional evening session. The program will run consecutively every Tuesday evening, concluding with a graduation banquet on April 4.
