Longtime lawmaker Rep. Larry Pittman (R-Cabarrus) recently listed an outline of five bills he hopes to introduce if elected to a fifth term in the North Carolina House of Representatives.
If elected, Pittman intends to push for Constitutional Carry — carrying a firearm either open or concealed without a permit — for the state, he said in his Sept. 21 Facebook post about his goals.
Currently, abortion is legal in the state, but Pittman wants to amend the constitution to define life as beginning at conception, he said in his post. In response to recent calls to reform policing policies and funding, Pittman said he wants legislation that will hold elected officials responsible for any consequences resulting from the limitation of a police agency in violent situations.
In light of Gov. Roy Cooper’s recent executive orders in response to COVID-19, which Pittman said in his post have damaged businesses and infringed on citizens’ and religious entities’ constitutional rights, the conservative lawmaker said he wants to limit the governor's emergency powers in the future through legislation.
Upholding a promise he made during his first bid for the House, Pittman will retire after this next term whether or not he is elected.
