The City of Concord Fire Marshal has implemented a ban on burning within 100 feet of a structure across all city areas. This measure is effective immediately and will remain in place until further notice.

This local burn ban aligns with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture's statewide prohibition, which began today at 8 a.m., restricting all open burning conducted more than 100 feet from any structure until further notice.

All previously issued burning permits are now invalid, and fires should be extinguished without delay. This applies to any outdoor burning at residences. Violators may face citations or fines. The issuance of new burning permits has been suspended.

The open burn ban is enforced by the City of Concord’s Fire Prevention Division under the N.C. State Building Code: Fire Prevention Code Section 307 and Chapter 34 of the City of Concord’s Fire Prevention and Protection Ordinance. It aims to prevent potential wildfires due to extremely dry weather conditions in both the city and state.

Open burning includes leaves, branches, and other plant materials, as well as recreational fires, bonfires, and outdoor fireplaces. However, cooking fires such as grills or outdoor cookers are exempt from this ban. Burning trash, lumber, tires, newspapers, plastics, or other non-vegetative materials remains illegal in all circumstances. Residents are urged to exercise caution with potential ignition sources like cigarettes or sparks from lawn equipment.
