The City of Concord has announced the return of its stormwater art contest, inviting young artists and environmental enthusiasts to participate. The competition is open to students from kindergarten through 12th grade residing in Concord. Participants are encouraged to submit original artwork that raises awareness about stormwater pollution and contributes to keeping local waterways clean. The deadline for submissions is February 16, 2025.
Stormwater, which flows untreated into local rivers and streams, often carries pollutants such as litter, yard and pet waste, oil, vehicle fluids, and sediment. These contaminants can significantly impact the environment as they drain into creeks and streams.
The city seeks artwork that effectively communicates the importance of preventing stormwater pollution under the theme "only rain down the drain." The focus should not be on drinking water.
Submissions will be evaluated by a panel of judges, with awards presented to winners in elementary, middle, and high school categories. A grand prize winner may have their artwork applied to a storm drain within Concord. All qualifying entries will be displayed at ClearWater Arts Center and Studios in Concord. Winners will be informed by World Water Day on March 22, 2025.
