The City of Concord has been actively engaging in spreading holiday cheer to its residents. Team Concord has prioritized community support through various initiatives, including assisting children and families during the festive season.
Earlier this fall, the city's leadership team participated in a team-building activity by assembling bicycles for the Fire Department's annual toy drive. Community organizations like Jeepers United contributed by donating hundreds of toys, which were distributed to children and families in need. This year's toy drive supported 13 families, including over 40 children.
The Concord Police Department collaborated with the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 64, Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office, and Boys and Girls Club of Cabarrus County to organize a shopping trip for nearly 40 children at Walmart on Supercenter Drive in Concord. The event allowed children to select clothing, shoes, and toys while enjoying a pizza lunch with local police officers. Over the past three decades, Concord PD and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 64 have aided over 1,500 families during the holiday season.
On Christmas Eve, the Concord Fire and Police departments visited Jeff Gordon's Children's Hospital to bring joy to children unable to be home for the holidays. "Concord PD provided Santa with a police escort as he made his way to the hospital." Upon arrival, "Concord Fire gave Santa a lift using their ladder truck so he could greet children through the hospital windows." Gifts were distributed to nearly 30 hospitalized children.
The efforts of Team Concord aim to alleviate some challenges faced by families during this time of year. Overall, more than 100 children benefited from these initiatives this holiday season.
