The Concord Christmas Parade is one of North Carolina's oldest continuously running parades. This year’s parade route has been adjusted due to construction on Union Street and will begin at Church Street N and Lake Concord Road. John Howard Jr., a long-time resident who has organized the parade for nearly six decades, will serve as Grand Marshal. Charles L. “Cy” Maulden, a World War II veteran turning 100 in December, will be honored as a Special Guest.
"Each year, special parade guests are chosen from the local community for their leadership and contributions to Concord."
John Howard Jr.'s involvement with the parade began in 1965 when he served as director for two decades. He has held various leadership roles within Concord over his lifetime.
"Howard’s long history of civic leadership continues today as he currently serves as Chair of the Planning & Zoning Commission."
Cy Maulden served in Italy during World War II before becoming an educator in music for over three decades.
"Maulden earned a Bachelor of Music Education from Shenandoah Conservatory of Music in 1947."
Additionally, this year's Santa Scramble 5K race will occur before the parade starts at McGee Park.
