The Concord Fire Department responded to a house fire on Union Street South at around 2:35 p.m. on March 21, 2023. Upon arrival three minutes later, firefighters encountered heavy flames emanating from a second-floor room. They promptly deployed hoses and searched the home, managing to contain the fire to the second floor and bring it under control within 15 minutes.

There were no occupants present during the incident, and no injuries were reported. Although residents mentioned that cats might be inside, none were found by the crews.

To facilitate firefighting efforts, the Concord Police Department, with help from the City of Concord Transportation Department, closed a section of Union Street South. This allowed for safe deployment of equipment and hoses. In total, 30 firefighters attended to the scene.

Assistance was also provided by City of Concord Electric Systems, City of Concord Code Enforcement, Cabarrus County EMS, and Kannapolis Fire Department.

Firefighters are continuing their work to salvage belongings for the homeowners. As operations continue on-site, Union Street South will remain closed between Louise Drive and Cline Avenue for approximately one more hour.

The fire has resulted in an estimated $120,000 in damages. The cause remains under investigation.
