The City of Concord is actively seeking an Artist Facilitator to assist in the creation of its inaugural Public Art Master Plan. This initiative encourages local artists and cultural producers to apply for the role, which involves collaborating with city staff, members of the Public Art Advisory Committee, and public art consultants. The facilitator will play a crucial part in community outreach activities and contribute to developing the master plan.
The Public Art Master Plan aims to direct future public art projects and programs within the city. It is expected to outline potential locations for artwork, suggest structures for public art initiatives, propose ordinance amendments to promote or mandate public art, explore public/private partnerships, and establish methods for public engagement.
In the previous fall, Concord's City Council-appointed Public Art Advisory Committee issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) targeting professional consultants with relevant experience. Consequently, a consultant team led by Todd Bressi was chosen in December 2021 to spearhead this planning effort.
The consulting team will be present in Concord from February 23-25 to initiate the master planning process. During their visit, they will conduct in-person interviews for the Artist Facilitator position and hold additional virtual interviews at a later stage. Applicants are encouraged to submit their applications promptly as the consulting team intends to fill the position by mid-March. Interested individuals should email their resume and relevant online links to amina@amewafineart.com. A comprehensive job description can be found online.
Local artists and cultural producers residing or working in Concord are invited to attend a meet-and-greet event with members of the Public Art Advisory Committee and city consultants on Thursday, February 24 from 4-6 p.m., hosted at Cabarrus Brewing Company loft.
Additionally, community members and local artists are encouraged to visit ClearWater Arts Center & Studios located in Gibson Village neighborhood. They can follow its social media channels for updates on artist opportunities, community events, classes, and gallery exhibitions.
