Downtown Concord has been recognized by HGTV as one of the 30 Most Charming Small-Town Downtowns in America. The city, located in North Carolina, was selected for its lively historic district that combines small-town charm with a vibrant art scene and unique local businesses. Concord is the only city from North Carolina to make this list.

Johnson Bray, City of Concord Downtown Development Manager, expressed pride in the recognition: “As a community we pour so much love into our downtown and take great pride in preserving our history while continuously offering residents and visitors new experiences.” He added that the downtown area offers a variety of local dining, shopping, and entertainment options.

HGTV's selection criteria focused on "vibrant towns where charm and style welcome you in and implore you to take a stroll." Downtown Concord features over 40 locally-owned shops and restaurants along with numerous murals, including one dedicated to the folk-rock band The Avett Brothers. Additionally, it houses the Cabarrus Arts Council within a renovated historic courthouse from 1876.

The recognition also highlights efforts by the Cabarrus County Convention and Visitors Bureau to promote tourism in Concord and throughout Cabarrus County. Donna Carpenter, President and CEO of Cabarrus County CVB, stated: “As the area’s official destination marketing organization, we take great pride in pitching and sharing the stories of Cabarrus County.”
