The City of Concord is inviting residents to participate in the 17th Citizen Public Safety Academy. This eight-week program offers citizens a chance to understand the roles and responsibilities of the city's public safety professionals.

The academy aims to strengthen community partnerships, which are crucial for maintaining high-quality services in Concord. These partnerships contribute to making Concord one of the largest and safest cities in North Carolina.

Participants will attend three classes with the Concord Police Department, where they will learn about evidence-based community policing strategies and meet police K-9s. The program also includes three sessions with the Concord Fire Department, featuring demonstrations on responding to incidents like fires, hazmat situations, rescues, and aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF). Additionally, students will visit Emergency Management to learn about the city’s Mobile Command Center. The academy concludes with a session at Concord's emergency communications center for an inside look at 911 operations.

Applications can be submitted online at concordnc.gov/PublicSafetyAcademy until January 31, 2022. The class size is limited to 20 students on a first-come, first-served basis. Classes start on February 8 and occur every Tuesday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., ending with a graduation banquet on March 29.

For further details, residents can contact Crystal Green, Police Administration Manager at the Concord Police Department, by calling 704-920-5007.
