Concord has been recognized as one of the safest cities in North Carolina, according to a report by SafeWise. The city ranked 17th and is one of only two cities with populations exceeding 100,000 to be included in the top-20 list statewide.
Mayor Bill Dusch commented on the achievement, stating, "As one of the largest and fastest growing cities in the state, Concord’s recognition is a testament to our local law enforcement, firefighters, and community leaders working together to keep us safe."
City officials have emphasized the role of an engaged citizenry in creating a safe environment. In 2000, Concord established the Partnership for Stronger Neighborhoods Program to foster collaboration between city officials and neighborhood leaders. This initiative aims to increase community involvement in city programs and currently includes 73 recognized neighborhoods.
The Concord Police Department plays a significant role in maintaining safety through strong partnerships with residents. The department employs 204 officers, including 21 school resource officers (SROs) and two SRO sergeants dedicated to community outreach and education.
SafeWise's analysis was based on FBI data concerning violent crime and property crime rates. For more information and to view the complete list of North Carolina's safest cities, visit: https://www.safewise.com/blog/safest-cities-north-carolina/
