Captain Larry Hubbard has been recognized as an exemplary figure in law enforcement, with Concord Police Chief Gary Gacek praising him for his leadership, valor, and dedication to protecting the community. Chief Gacek spoke at the Peace Officers Memorial where Hubbard was awarded the prestigious Robert J. Eury Memorial Award. Hubbard's commitment to service dates back to the early days of his 30-year career, marked by acts of bravery and selflessness.
Reflecting on Hubbard's character, Chief Gacek commended him for always going above and beyond to help others, stating, "There is no one more deserving of this prestigious honor." Hubbard's long-standing service in law enforcement has been characterized by various roles within the police department, including his current position as Captain over Concord’s Criminal Investigations Division.
Expressing his gratitude, Hubbard acknowledged the support he received throughout his career, thanking his colleagues and mentors for their guidance. The Eury Award, presented annually to officers with over 20 years of experience who demonstrate a true commitment to law enforcement and community service, is a fitting tribute to Hubbard's dedication.
Senator Paul Newton emphasized the importance of public safety in his keynote address, highlighting the ultimate duty of government. The event also paid tribute to fallen officers, including Ralph Chandler Kennerly, a Concord Police Department officer killed in the line of duty in 1920. Kennerly's name was added to the Concord Police Department's Fallen Officer Memorial, recognizing his sacrifice in serving the community.
The Law Enforcement Day and Peace Officers Memorial event concluded with solemn ceremonies, including a White Rose Ceremony and a 21-gun salute to honor the officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. The event, which commemorates the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers, will be broadcast on Cabarrus County Television throughout the month of May for the public to watch and pay their respects.
