The City of Concord has announced its holiday closures and modified schedules for various services during the upcoming Christmas and New Year's holidays. Government offices will be closed from Monday, December 25 through Wednesday, December 27 in observance of Christmas, as well as on Monday, January 1, 2024 for New Year's Day.
According to the city's announcement, garbage, recycling, and bulky waste collection will operate on a one-day delay during the week of Christmas. However, there will be no yard waste collection during that week. Loose leaf collection crews will be working diligently to catch up on remaining areas under the second cycle.
For the week of January 1-5, 2024, all collection services will also operate on a one-day delay. The city has allowed residents to place up to five extra bags outside of their trash carts from December 26 through January 5. It is important to note that these extra bags should be placed at least two feet away from any cart or object to ensure safe collection.
Furthermore, the city has provided guidelines for the disposal of live Christmas trees. Customers can place their trees curbside, with the stand, lights, and ornaments removed, along with their regular yard waste.
In addition to the waste collection schedule modifications, Rider Transit will be closed, and no buses will operate on Christmas, December 25, and New Year's Day, January 1, 2024.
The Parks and Recreation department has also announced closures and schedule modifications during the holidays. All recreation and activity centers, including Lake Fisher, will be closed on Christmas, December 25. However, some centers will have modified hours on other days. Academy, Hartsell, and Logan Multi-Purpose Recreation Centers will be open with holiday hours from Noon to 6:00 p.m. on December 23, December 26-27, and Monday, January 1. They will operate regular hours on Thursday, December 28, and Friday, December 29, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and from Noon to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 30.
The David Phillips Activity Center will be closed from December 25-27 and on January 1. Lake Fisher, on the other hand, will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on December 23, but closed on Monday, December 25, and Monday, January 1.
Lastly, the ClearWater Arts Center & Studios will be closed from December 25-27 and on January 1.
Residents are encouraged to visit the city's official website, concordnc.gov/recycle, to view, download, and print a copy of the 2024 Recycling & Bulky Waste Calendar.
