City of Albemarle issued the following announcement on Oct. 9.
City of Albemarle City Manager Michael Ferris announced the appointment of Dan Worl as the City’s new Director of Public Utilities. He will assume the role on January 1st, 2022 when the current Director Judy Redwine retires after 49+ years of service with the City. Mr. Worl has served the City of Albemarle since March 1, 2021 as the Assistant Utilities Director. In his current position, Worl works closely with the water/wastewater plants, collection and distribution systems, electric, customer service, and metering divisions within the Department, as well as working closely with other City Departments.
He has previously held positions in local government and the private sector and possesses a background in Public Utilities, and Sustainable Energy & Project Management. Worl held roles focused in water/wastewater, solar, energy efficiency, managing the “energize-Indiana” statewide energy efficiency program, and numerous plant start-ups/closures in the manufacturing environment. In his last position working for the City of Greenfield, Indiana he held similar responsibilities for the community of 23,000 residents. Worl also served Cambridge City, Indiana where he was Town Council President and the Western Wayne Regional Sewer District President. He holds an Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Leadership from Purdue University. He also possesses an Associate’s Degree in Sustainability from IVY Tech and a Public Managers Certification from Ball State University.
City Manager Michael Ferris appointed Mr. Worl to the position and stated “Upon completion of the search process, it was clear that the best candidate to serve the City, our citizens, and utilities customers was Dan Worl. Possessing significant experience in the area of water and sewer as well as in electric distribution provides Dan with highly desirable experience and skills relevant to the position of Director of Public Utilities. Since he began working with the City, he has exhibited the knowledge, skills, and abilities that made him the clear choice for the job. He has quickly demonstrated his technical and organizational abilities that add value to the organization, while also possessing the interpersonal skills that make him a pleasure to work with.”
Mr. Worl is looking forward to the challenges and opportunities the Public Utilities Director role provides. “I have been fortunate to be able to work with Judy Redwine during my time here. Her love of the community and dedication has given me a great feeling of pride for the community and the City employees. I feel that being a public servant has been the most rewarding portion of my career and am look forward to working with Public Utilities and the leadership team to help move the City forward. We are preparing for the growth opportunities we are seeing as well as helping citizens receive quality, cost efficient services from Public Utilities.” Worl relocated to the area with his fiancé and is looking forward to a long and successful career with the City of Albemarle.
