Cabarrus County Manager Mike Downs proposed a $276 million operating budget at the June 1 commissioners meeting, WBTV 3 reported on June 2.
If the commissioners approve the FY 2020-2021 spending plan as it stands, property owners can expect to pay 74 cents per $100 land value, WBTV 3 reported. The January 2020 revaluation predicted county projected sales tax to drop 17% from FY20 to FY21, as well as a 17% increase in commercial and residential real property value.
“Cabarrus County has a strong history of strategic planning and investment that has prepared us for uncertainties,” Downs said, according to WBTV 3. “This year is no different — we continue to look forward. We’re planning not for just the coming year, but for many years to come.”
The proposed budget also recommended new funding for public services, including education, county workforce, essential building projects, and quality-of-life.
The commissioners are scheduled to meet on Monday, June 15 at 6:30 p.m. virtually to hold the budget public hearing, with adoption required by Tuesday, June 30.
