The intersection of Cabarrus Avenue and Union Street in downtown Concord is set to close from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on February 18-19, 2025, weather permitting. This closure will allow crews to install a decorative compass into the asphalt as part of the Downtown Concord Streetscape project.
This intersection, known as Concord’s center square, plays a crucial role in determining the directional designations of the city's streets. The new stamped compass feature at this location reflects both Concord's historical roots and its future developments as part of the streetscape initiative.
The City has shared a video on social media discussing the significance of the compass and the center square. Additional details about the streetscape project can be found online at concorddowntown.com/streetscape.
During this period, access to the Municipal Parking Deck will remain open via both Union Street and Cabarrus Avenue entrances. Visitors can also find additional parking at the County Parking Deck located at Corban Avenue and Spring Street. A full list of free parking options is available online at concorddowntown.com/parking.
