The City of Concord Public Art Commission has announced a call for artist submissions for two upcoming public art projects in Downtown Concord. Artists are encouraged to submit their designs for the inaugural Downtown Concord Sculpture Show and a new mural project on Union Street.

These projects present an opportunity for local artists to feature their work on the recently renovated streetscape on Union Street, enhancing the downtown experience for visitors. The Public Art Commission, with the backing of the City Council, has identified this area as an ideal location for new public art installations.

The commission aims to establish an annual sculpture show, starting with four loaned sculptures to be installed next spring and displayed for one year. Additionally, submissions are sought for a commissioned mural project that will cover an existing fence near the intersection of Union Street and Cabarrus Avenue. Mural designs should reflect Downtown Concord's history, culture, and vibrancy.

Artists must submit their entries by January 3, 2025. Selections will be announced in February 2025, with selected artists receiving a stipend for their contributions.

For more details on entry forms and submission guidelines, interested artists can visit concordnc.gov/streetscapepublicart.
