Cabarrus County, along with the Cities of Concord and Kannapolis, has announced the winners of their Fair Housing Month TikTok Contest. The contest focused on the theme "Home Sweet Home" and aimed to educate participants about the Fair Housing Act. This act protects individuals from discrimination when engaging in housing-related activities such as purchasing or renting a home, obtaining a mortgage, or seeking housing assistance.
The first-place winner is Taylor Maddox, a ninth grader at Carolina International School. Ally Zendejas, a tenth grader at Cox Mill High School, secured second place. Katelyn Cisine, a ninth grader at West Cabarrus High School, was awarded third place. The prizes for these positions were $100 for first place, $75 for second place, and $50 for third place.
The announcement took place during a virtual Fair Housing seminar today. Mr. James Perry, President and CEO of the Winston-Salem Urban League, spoke at the event about the N.C. Fair Housing Act and equal housing rights.
