The City of Concord Water Resources Department has initiated the second phase of its annual Sewer Cured in Place Pipe (CIPP) Lining project. This initiative aims to enhance the durability of the city's infrastructure.
Earlier this month, crews completed the first phase, which involved cleaning 28,000 linear feet of sewer line throughout the city. These lines are primarily composed of clay pipes, known for their vulnerability to breaks and leaks. In this second phase, a steam process will be used to apply a more resilient liner to these sewer lines in various neighborhoods across Concord.
Residents may observe steam emanating from manholes during this work; however, they should not be alarmed as it is a standard part of the procedure. Additionally, some odors may be noticeable due to the installation of the new sewer liner.
Following the completion of sewer lining, contract crews will commence rehabilitation work on 108 manholes citywide. This involves applying a thin concrete liner to extend their lifespan.
The project is scheduled to continue until October 22, 2021, weather permitting. Residents will receive notifications at least 24 hours before work begins on their street through door hangers or personal visits.
