Rider Transit will resume its regular operations and start collecting fares again on July 1, 2021. This decision comes after modifications to services and suspension of fares were made in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A federal mandate still requires masks for both passengers and staff members. All routes are set to follow their usual schedules.
The return to normal operations includes several changes: passengers can now use the front door to enter and exit buses, all seats are available for use, and fare collection will recommence.
Several safety measures have been implemented and will remain part of standard procedures to ensure safety during transit. These include multiple disinfectant cleanings of the transit center and buses, hand sanitizer stations, and enhanced air filtration systems.
To enhance the transit experience, a new app will be launched on July 1. This app is designed to simplify the purchase of Rider fare passes, allowing passengers to quickly buy a transit pass by loading money through the mobile app or using a smartcard available at the Rider Transit Center. The app or smartcard will enable users to pay as they ride, load cash balances, and access important transit information from their phones.
