The City of Concord is set to unveil a tribute mural dedicated to The Avett Brothers, a band with local roots. The unveiling will take place during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, April 24 at noon, located at 25 Union Street, North. This event will align with the city's Small Business Saturday activities, which feature local promotions, sidewalk vendors, and food trucks.
The mural, titled "Bloom," was created by Caswell Turner, a local artist from Concord and owner of Cicada Studios. It measures 352 inches in height and 500 inches in width and was installed using a vinyl adhesion process. Turner spent over 72 hours creating this vector artwork piece. The Avett Brothers have given their approval for the mural.
Lyrics from The Avett Brothers' songs are subtly integrated into the mural design. Turner has developed a full "Lyric Collection" that begins to the right of the band's name and stretches across the entire length of the mural. This collection includes all of the band's current songs, starting with "Kind of in Love" and ending with "The Fire." This interactive feature allows fans and visitors to search for lyrics from their favorite songs.
The project received support not only from the City of Concord but also from more than 150 individual donors, community organizations, and local businesses.
