N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) maintenance crews are set to temporarily close the bridge on Cabarrus Avenue W over Irish Buffalo Creek on July 11 for necessary repairs. The closure, anticipated to last 3-4 weeks, is expected to have significant traffic impacts due to its importance as a major thoroughfare to Downtown Concord.
"This is the small bridge near the roundabout and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Plaza, not the Allen T. Small bridge," clarified the NCDOT regarding the location of the upcoming repair work.
The NCDOT states, "The closure is necessary for crews to perform full-depth bridge deck repairs," indicating the essential nature of the maintenance work to be carried out during this period.
To navigate around the closure, drivers have been advised by the NCDOT that, "Drivers can follow a posted detour from Cabarrus Avenue to U.S. 601, U.S. 601/U.S. 29, McGill Avenue and Kerr Street, returning to Cabarrus Avenue."
As the community prepares for the impending bridge closure and repair works, residents and commuters are urged to plan their routes accordingly and make use of the designated detour to minimize disruptions during this period.
