Town of Harrisburg issued the following announcement on Feb. 13.
The largest training event in department history was held this week at our new training facility.
Monday Tuesday and Wednesday, 90 firefighters from Harrisburg, Concord, Kannapolis and Cornelius Fire Departments participated in several live fire scenarios and classroom time on advanced Thermal Imaging Camera use.
The Thermal Imaging Camera (TIC) can literally see through the smoke and give us an incredible view behind the smoke making our chance of rescuing a trapped civilian or firefighter much greater.
The use of the TIC also gives us a constant read of temperatures inside a burning building which greatly enhances our safety and gives us more information to make rapid decisions inside the fire.
Training was conducted by Andy Starnes from Insight fire training group who is world renowned In Thermal imagery training and in partnership with Rowan Cabarrus Community College.
Without the cooperation of RCCC, this event would not have happened.
This was the first official "Live fire event" we have conducted at our new training facility which has been made possible through the constant support of the Town of Harrisburg.
