Educators in Cabarrus County are part of dozens who will share a $43,000 financial award from an energy company to enhance students’ learning.

“Investing in the education of our youth and future leaders is just one way in which EnergyUnited demonstrates its resounding commitment to community,” EnergyUnited communication manager Maureen Moore said in a November release about the grants to the 40 educators.

The funding comes from EnergyUnited’s Bright Ideas program. The financial awards promote engaging classroom projects through technology and tools, the energy company said in the release.

In addition to Cabarrus County, educators in Alexander, Davie, Davidson, Forsyth, Guilford, Iredell, Rockingham and Rowan counties received financial awards ranging from $308 to $2,000 for each instructor, the utility company said in the release.

“EnergyUnited is very proud to support our educators’ continued efforts to innovate in the classroom, whether in person or virtually, even as our communities respond to the many challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Moore said in the release.

The Bright Ideas grant plan got its start in 1994. Since then, EnergyUnited has donated over nearly $900,000 to teachers and other instructors in the state.
