The redirecting of traffic in downtown Concord for the 250,000-square-foot Cabarrus County Courthouse renovation and expansion project has been extended through the middle of September, county officials said.
The construction project was slated for completion on Aug. 28, Cabarrus County officials said in a news release, however, because of weather and other delays the work is expected to continue through Sept. 11. The area around the construction will be reopened to traffic on Sept. 12.
Means Avenue will remain closed, county officials said in the news release, while underground utilities are moved and reconnected. Traffic has been rerouted and motorists attempting to get to Union Street who are traveling Northwest on Union Street will take Barbrick Avenue to Spring Street and then Cabarrus Avenue to Union Street. Southwest bound traffic on Union will take Cabarrus Avenue to Spring Street and then back to Union.
The entire construction project, which also includes a public plaza being built on Means Avenue, is expected to be complete in 2025.
