The City of Concord is the 12th safest city in North Carolina according to SafeWise and is one of only two cities with a population of over 100,000 people to make the top 20. So how do we do it? Enroll in the 2024 Citizen Public Safety Academy to find out! Apply online now through January 31, 2024, but don’t delay as space is limited so register early to guarantee your spot.

The Citizen Public Safety Academy is an 8-week program that takes residents behind the scenes with our public safety departments to gain a deeper understanding of and appreciation for all they do to create safe communities where families and businesses can thrive. During the course, participants will spend three weeks with the nationally accredited Concord Police Department, three weeks with the ISO Class 1 Concord Fire Department, meet with the city’s Emergency Management Coordinator, and spend one week with the Communications Department which includes the city’s 911 telecommunications, emergency radios, and fiber network. The course concludes with a graduation ceremony to be held at the police department.

Applications for the Citizen Public Safety Academy are available online and are due by January 31, 2024. Residents must be at least 18 years old to participate. The class size is limited to 40 participants and is filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Classes are held on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. beginning February 13 and continuing through April 4.
