The Kannapolis Board of Education recognized several individuals for their contributions to the district during its March meeting.
At McKnight Child Development Center, a four-year-old student named Maxton was honored for his enthusiasm and willingness to help others. According to school officials, Maxton has shown leadership in the Housekeeping Center and is known for making classmates feel welcome. As he prepares to move on to kindergarten, staff expressed confidence in his continued success.
Another student, Kayden, was acknowledged for his kindness and social awareness. Teachers described him as someone who offers support when classmates are upset and excels in hands-on learning activities.
Janis, a teacher at McKnight CDC, was also recognized for her focus on building strong relationships with students and colleagues. “Connection is the word that best captures Janis’s approach to teaching, mentoring, and the way she engages with everyone around her,” school officials stated. They highlighted her role as a mentor to new teachers and her efforts to foster community within the school.
Sheree Russell received recognition as Classified Staff of the Year. She has worked as an instructional assistant at McKnight CDC since 2015 and is known for her dedication and support of both students and staff. The board noted her reliability and caring nature.
Parent volunteer Gaston Guevera was honored for his commitment to supporting children and families in the program. “His reliability and positive spirit make a meaningful difference in our community,” school officials said.
Additionally, Mrs. Twyonia Butler from G.W. Carver Elementary School was named Hilbish Ford Teacher of the Month for March 2026. “Mrs. Butler is not only a wonderful teacher, but an even better person,” according to Hilbish Ford representatives. She has not missed a day of school in four years and achieved top test scores among fourth-grade teachers at her school.
Beyond academic achievements, Mrs. Butler was praised for building strong relationships with students: “She helped us when we would struggle on our work and it made me feel like I could do anything,” one student shared.
These recognitions reflect ongoing efforts by Kannapolis City Schools to highlight individuals who contribute positively to their educational environment.
